CIEL states its position as a 'public interest, not-for-profit environmental law firm'. Amongst its goals are listed their aims 'to solve environmental problems…to strengthen national environmental law systems...to incorporate fundamental principles of ecology and justice into international law'. The site contains links to other important environmental sites and its contents are split into headings: international, professional, business, populations, and environmental. CIEL's programme areas include: biodiversity, climate change, human rights, international financial institutions, natural resources management and rural areas.
